Women's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season At UMass Lowell Spring Invitational

Skyhawks post five event wins on the afternoon

LOWELL, Mass. (March 26, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field program opened its outdoor season by posting five event wins at the UMass Lowell Invitational at Cushing Field Complex today.       

Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) posted an event win in the 3000-meter run, finishing first out of 20 competitors in 10:24.45. Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) also recorded an event win for the Sykhawks, finishing first in the pole vault as she cleared 10-feet.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro), fresh off of winning NE-10 Indoor Field Rookie of the Year, placed first in the high jump, clearing 5-feet, 3-inches. Classmate Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) came in fifth in the same event, clearing 4-feet, 11-inches.

Junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 134-feet, 11-inches, while senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) came in third with a distance of 125-feet, 11-inches. Lepley also came in fourth place in the javelin throw with a toss of 100-feet, 11-inches.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) won the discus throw with a toss of 128-feet, three-inches. Pierson also finished fifth in the shot put, finishing with a distance of 36-feet, 6.25-inches, while sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) came in fourth at 39-feet, 8.5-inches.

Sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) led four Stonehill runners in the top ten of the 100-meter dash with her fourth place finish in 13.11. Junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished fifth in 13.18, while freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) placed sixth in 13.19. Senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) rounded out the top ten in 13.38.

The 4x100-meter relay consisting of Finley-Moise, Polvere, Ameen and freshman Marisa Janeczek (Glastonbury, Connecticut/Glastonbury) finished second with a time of 51.04 seconds.

Kent placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.62 seconds, while Tobin came in sixth place finishing with a time of 27.33.

Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) finished in third place in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.77. Senior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 31-feet, 0.5-inches.

Senior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) finished sixth in the one mile run with a time of 5:26.50, establishing a school record as it is the first time the event has been run outdoors. Freshman Adrienne Santoro (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) came in ninth in the one mile run in 5:32.33.

Stonehill is back in action next weekend when it competes at the 51st annual Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary University, in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday.
