Plymouth, Massachusetts, junior finishes 12th in 3000m tonight after helping DMR take sixth on Friday
PITTSBURG, Kansas. (March 12, 2016) – Stonehill College junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) claimed her second All-America award of the weekend as she turned in a 12th place finish in the women's 3000-meter run on the final night of the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Pittsburg State University and the Crawford County Convention and Visitors Bureau, at the Robert W. Plaster Center tonight.
Borofski, who has now posted four All-America performances over her career so far, earns second team honors for the 3000-meters for the first time in her career after her 12th place finish tonight in 9:46.84. She was able to hang in the lead pack for much of the race, hanging onto the end through 1500-meters before the eventual winner, senior Emily Oren (9:27.98) of Hillsdale, took a lead pack of four with her late before breaking away for the victory.
"Nicole ended her indoor season on a very high note with a time that is only two seconds slower than last year's PR," said Stonehill Hall of Fame head coach Karen Boen. "Given that it was her second event of the meet its pretty impressive as she came in seeded 17th and beat five who had run faster than her coming in."
Borofski ran the one mile anchor for Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay that finished sixth last night in a school-record 11:35.05. She was joined in earning All-America honors by seniors Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) along with junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown). Borofski also earned All-America honors for cross country in the fall and for the 3000-meter steeplechase last spring at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Stonehill track and field programs will be off next weekend before opening the outdoor season at the University of Massachusetts Spring Invitational on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m.
