Boen Collects USTFCCCA East Region Coach Of The Year Honors


Boen, who was recentley inducted into the Stonehill Athletics Hall of fame, wins East Region Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year.

Hall-of-Fame head coach earns second consecutive East Region accolade

EASTON, Mass. (March 8, 2016) – Stonehill College head women's track & field coach Karen Boen has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Women's Coach of the Year for the indoor season, the organization announced today.

Boen collects her sixth career regional Coach of the Year award for track & field, including her fourth with the women's team and third during an indoor season. Boen, who was recently inducted into the Stonehill Athletics Hall-of-Fame, has also collected a combined 32 conference/regional Coach of the Year honors as the head coach of Stonehill's men's/women's cross country programs. With her eleven conference/regional awards for men's/women's indoor and outdoor track & field, Boen's total now stands at 43 during her illustrious career.

Boen led the Stonehill women to their third consecutive NE-10 indoor title on February 20th, as the Skyhawks posted six event wins and 11 All-Conference performances to edge Southern Connecticut State University with 157.50 total points. The following weekend, Boen guided Stonehill to a program record seventh-place finish at the New England Championships.

Eight of Boens runners collected USTFCCCA All-East Region awards, headlined by the women's distance medley relay team, who took first place for the second time in school history and also posted the second fastest time in the country. Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) who was a member of the DMR also earned first place in the 3000-meter run, completing the event in 9:43.94, which placed her in the top 20 nationally in the event. Borofski will be competing in the 3000-meter run at this weekend's NCAA DII Championship.

Borofski, along with junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), senior Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and classmate Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) will cap Stonehill's indoor season this weekend at the NCAA DII Championships, held on the campus of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
