DMR posts second fastest time in the nation, breaks school record with time of 11:36.33
BOSTON, Mass. (February 26, 2016) – The Northeast-10 Champion Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Computer Rankings, is tied for seventh place with 10 total points after day one of the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Stonehill's performance today was highlighted by the 4000-meter distance medley relay team which won its second New England Championship in the event, while recording the second fastest time run in the country and setting a new school-record of 11:36.33. Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) led off the opening 1200-meter leg with a 3:33.8 split, followed by senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), who ran the 400-meter portion in 56.8 seconds, before classmate Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) completed the 800-meter leg in 2:15.5, and junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) closed it out with a 4:49.9 split in the 1-mile anchor leg.
Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) qualified for tomorrow's final in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.09 seconds in her preliminary heat. Esernio, who posted the 14th fastest time in the event, will be looking for her second consecutive All-New England performance after placing eighth last year.
Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) qualified for tomorrows finals in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.81 seconds, good for the sixth fastest time in qualifying. Dexter will be looking to take home her first career All-New England honors in her first championship appearance. The East Calais native also just missed qualifying in the 200-meter dash, finishing 10th with a time of 25.34 seconds.
Freshman Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) finished 17th in the 1000-meter run prelims, but did not qualify for tomorrow's final after clocking in at 3:01.22.
Freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) finished 25th in the 5000-meter run with a new personal best time of 18:29.23.
