Women’s Track & Field Gearing Up For New England Championships


Juniors Nicole Borofski and Aisha McAdams are favorites to finish in the top three in the 3000-meter run.

Skyhawks will look to improve on 10th place finish from last year's championship

EASTON, Mass. (February 25, 2016) – The Northeast-10 Conference champion Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Computer Rankings, is gearing up for the upcoming 2016 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) is the favorite to win the 3000-meter run on Saturday with a time of 9:41.75. Borofski set that time at last week's NE-10 Championship, breaking the program record and the championship record. Classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown)     is seeded third in the event with a time of 9:49.23.

Sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) is slated to run the 5000-meter run and is seeded eighth out of 32 competitors with a time of 17:48.58. Freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) will also compete in the event and is seeded 23rd with a time of 18:20.99.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) is running in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dash on Saturday. The East Calais native is seeded eighth out of 32 competitors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.81 seconds which she set at last week's NE-10 Championships, and is seeded third in her heat in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.66 seconds.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) is seeded 10th in the high jump with a program record height of 5-feet, 5-inches which she set on February 12th, at the BU Valentine Invitational. Classmate Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) will compete in the 1000-meter run and is seeded 18th with a time of 3:01.93.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) are seeded 17th and 29th, respectively, in the one mile with times of 5:02.86 and 5:12.98. Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) is seeded 13th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) is seeded 15th in the shot put with a distance of 41-feet, 5.75-inches, a distance she set at the NE-10 Championship that set the new school record. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) is seeded 18th in the event with a distance of 40-feet, 7-inches.

The Distance Medley Relay is seeded third in the event with a time of 11:44.22, seeded only behind two division I schools in UMass Amherst and University of New Hampshire. Borofski, McAdam, and seniors Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) are slated to compete on the Distance Medley Relay team.

The 4x800 and 4x400 relays are seeded 10th and 15th, respectively with times of 9:40.58 and 3:59.13. Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy), senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic), Esernio and Gray will look to improve on the current seed of the 4x400 relay drastically.

Following Saturday's New England Indoor Championships, Stonehill will return to action on March 11th-12th at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
