Three-Peat! Stonehill Captures Third Consecutive NE-10 Indoor Title

Skyhawks racks up six event wins, 157.50 points in victory


Junior Nicole Borofski placed first in both the mile and 3000-meter run, while breaking the Championship and program record in the mile by over four seconds.

BOSTON, Mass. (February 20, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Regional Computer Rankings, posted six event wins and 11 All-Conference performances en route to capturing its third consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship this evening at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Stonehill earned its third straight NE-10 indoor title by compiling 157.50 total points. Runner-up Southern Connecticut State University was close behind with 144 points, while Merrimack College finished third with 116 points. The University of New Haven and American International College rounded out the top-5 with 78 and 65 points, respectively.

Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massacusetts/Plymouth North), who was seeded first in the mile, won her second career NE-10 Indoor Championship in the event and broke the Championship and program record by four seconds, finishing the course in 4:50.31.  Borofski lowered her provisional qualifying time for next month's NCAA Championships, and currently ranks eighth nationally. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native was also the top seed in the 3000-meter run and lived up to the billing, finishing first in a time of 10:03.07.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield), who was seeded second in the 1000-meter run, collected her second NE-10 Championship with a time of 3:00.85. Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) placed fifth and earned Stonehill four points for her efforts, finishing in a time of 3:05.63.

Senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) captured her first NE-10 Championship in the 800-meter run, as she set a new personal record with a time of 2:16.25. Freshman Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) joined Carberry in the event and turned in a time of 2:19.44, good for fourth overall.

Sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) took the top spot in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:48.58, while freshman Mackenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) added four points to Stonehill's tally after placing fifth in 18:48.00.

Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) earned All-Conference honors after finishing second in the mile in a time of 4:51.27, which is the ninth fastest time run in the country. McAdams also placed third in the 3000-meter run, completing the course in 10:21.71.


Senior Erin Carberry placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.25.

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) placed fourth and broke the school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing with a time of 7.81. Dexter also led three stonehill entries that finished in the top 10 in the 200-meter dash, finishing in sixth place with a time of 25.66, followed by sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) and Senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) who finished in seventh and ninth place respectively, with times of 25.90 and 26.18.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) received All-Conference honors after placing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08. Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 58.97 seconds.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay and 4000-meter distance medley relay placed first and second, respectively, finishing in 9:40.58 and 12:22.15. Carberry, Hannon, Knox and Buonfiglio ran the 4x800, and event that the Skyhawks have not lost in nine consecutive years, while Caiazzi, junior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross), senior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) and Buonfiglio competed with the DMR.

Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro), who holds the school record in the high jump, earned All-Conference recognition after finishing second in the event with a height of 5-feet, 3.25-inches. Her sister Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) finished sixth with a height of 5-feet, 1.25-inches.

Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) matched the school record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-feet, 6-inches and narrowly missing out on All-Conference honors with a third place finish. Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) also just missed out on All-Conference as she finished third in the shot put with a throw of 41-feet, 5.75-inches. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) placed fourth with a distance of 40-feet, 6.25 inches.

Junior Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) scored four points and set a new personal best for the Skyhawks with her fifth place finish in the weight throw, finishing the event with a distance of 46-feet, 6.75-inches, while classmate Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee , Massachusetts/Chicopee) also set a personal record and placed seventh with a toss of 45-feet, 10-inches

Stonehill will be back in action next weekend at the New England Track & Field Championships, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Mass.
