Borofski improves NCAA provisional qualifying time in 3000-meter run with program record mark of 9:41.75
BOSTON, Mass. (February 12, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 1 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Region team index, returned to action today at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) lowered her program record time in the 3000-meter run by over two seconds, clocking in at 9:41.75, good for 19th place out of 118 competitors. Borofski's finish also improved her standing from 19th to 9th among the Division II leaders in the event.
Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) and sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) both broke school records in their respective events at the meet today. Daggett finished 6th in the high jump with a height of 5-feet, 5.00-inches, breaking a six year old record held by Olivia Dyson. With Daggett's finish today, she now holds the top spot in the NE-10 in the high jump. Tobin placed 15th in the pole vault, clearing 10-feet, 6-inches and breaking her own school record set a month ago.
Senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) ran to a 28th place finish out of 195 competitors in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 56.95 seconds, while freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) finished 79th with a time of 59.27 seconds. Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) placed 30th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.19 seconds.
Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/U-32) completed the 60-meter dash in 7.91 seconds, good for 27th place. Classmate Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) finished 41st in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:01.93.
Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) completed the one mile run in an impressive 47th place out of 242 competitors. McAdams finished the race in 5:01.93 while freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) placed 89th with a time of 5:12.98.
Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) placed 77th in the 800-meter event, clocking in at 2:18.62. Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay consisting of Fernandes, senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic), Esernio and Gray earned a 23rd place finish with a time of 3:59.13.
Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) and Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) finished 12th and 38th, respectively, in the shot put. Pierson finished with a distance of 39-feet, 3.75-inches and Farrell finished with 38-feet, 10.50-inches.
Junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) took 27th place in the weight throw with a distance of 46-feet, 2.50-inches. Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) finished 31st with a distance of 44-feet, 1.25-inches.
Stonehill will look to defend its NE-10 Indoor Track & Field Championship next weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
