Borofski, Gray Shine as Women's Track & Field Competes at Joe Donahue Games


Borofski ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time and set a new schoold record in the 3000-meter event.

Skyhawks junior Nicole Borofski sets school record in 3000-meter run

BOSTON, Mass. (January 22, 2016) – Junior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) set the new school record in the 3000-meter event and senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) placed first in the 500-meter dash as the Stonehill College women's track and field team competed at the Joe Donahue Collegiate Indoor Games, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center tonight.

Stonehill, who was one of the lone Division II schools at the event, more than held their own in competing with Division I programs. Borofski broke her own school record and ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 3000-meter event, finishing in second place with a time of 9:50.28 - 11th fastest time in Division II this season for the event.

Gray ran to a first place finish in the 500-meter dash, clocking in at 1:16.80. The Warwick, Rhode Island native also set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.84.

Junior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) led a handful of Stonehill runners in the one mile run, finishing in fifth place (5:00.99), while sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) placed 18th and 21st, respectively, with times of 5:13.53 and 5:16.23. A trio of freshmen, Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas), Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho), and Taylor Landers (North Andover, Massachusetts/Pingree School), also competed in the mile, finishing with times of 5:19.01, 5:36.59 and 5:36.60, respectively.

Junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) posted a sixth place finish in 1000-meter event, clocking in at 2:59.90. Another distance runner, freshman Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) raced to a 14th place finish with a time of 3:06.32.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) placed 11th in the shot put with a distance of 39-feet, 11.5 inches. Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) threw her way to a 16th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 38-feet, 8.25 inches. 

Other Stonehill Highlights: 

Senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) earned 18th out of 37 competitors in the 400-meter dash. Kent posted a 1:00.23 time in the event.

Senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massahusets/Thayer Academy) just missed out on a top ten finish in the 800-meter race, finishing in 11th place with a time of 2:21.06.

The women's 4x400 relay team recorded a top ten finish, racing to seventh place out of 19 teams, clocking in at 3:59.50. Kent ran the lead leg, followed by freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy), senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) and Gray on the anchor leg.

Stonehill returns to action next Friday when it competes at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, at 1 p.m.
