Women's Track & Field Places Fifth at Beantown Challenge

Senior All-American Jordan Gray posts third place finish to lead Skyhawks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (January 16, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team opened its second semester schedule today with a fifth-place finish among 11 teams at the Beantown Challenge, held at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Competing in a field of eleven that consisted of eight Division I programs, Stonehill placed fifth today with 39 points. Host Harvard won the meet with 183 points, followed by UMass Amherst (172 points) and Boston College (107 points). Fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Merrimack College finished tenth with 5 points.

Senior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) led the way for Stonehill with a third place finish in the 500-meter dash (1:15.83), while junior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished fifth in the one mile run with a time of 5:06.56.

Freshman Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) led four Skyhawks in the 3000-meter run, placing sixth with a time of 10:35.22, followed by classmate Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) who finished eighth (10:45.27), sophomore Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) who came in ninth (11:05.04) and freshman Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) (tenth, 11:08.51).


Sophomore Alison Tobin placed fourth in the pole vault this afternoon.

Stonehill's 4x440-yard relay of Gray, Kent, Polvere and freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) finished fourth and clocked in at 4:07.81. Fernandes ran the lead leg, and she was followed by Gray and Kent, while Polvere completed the anchor leg.  

Sophomore Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) cleared ten feet, four inches in the pole vault, good for a fourth-place finish. Freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) finished sixth in the high-jump, leaping five-feet, three inches.

Senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) led four Stonehill entries in the 200-meter run with her seventh-place finish in 26.65. Sophomore Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) followed in eighth with a time of 26.78, while freshman Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) placed ninth in 27.03. Junior Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished in 11th with a time of 27.28.

Senior Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles, completing the race in 9.24.

Senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) finished in eighth place in the 1000-meter run, clocking a time of 3:01.19.

Junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick), Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) and sophomore Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) placed seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively, in the weight throw with distances of 42 feet, 6.25 inches, 40 feet, 6.75 inches and 38-feet, 7.50 inches.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) and sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) finished in seventh and eighth place respectively, in the shot put with distances of 39-feet, 7.75 inches and 38-feet, 11 inches.

Stonehill is back in action next Friday when it competes at the Joe Donahue Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts, hosted by Northeastern University at 4:00 p.m.
