Women's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season At UMass Boston Invitational

Farrell wins shot put, while Lepley takes home first in weight throw

BOSTON, Mass. (December 5, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team opened its 2015-16 indoor season today at the 4th Annual University of Massachusetts Boston Indoor Open, held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sophomore Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) and junior Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) posted both of Stonehill's individual event wins today. Farrell took first place in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 8.25 inches, while Lepley threw her way to a first place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 43 feet, 2.50 inches.

Senior Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) registered a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.25 seconds. Freshman Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) and senior Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) placed fourth and fifth in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:00.0 and 1:00.37, respectively.

Stonehill placed two runners in the top five of the one mile run, led by senior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) who finished third in 5:18.92. Freshman Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) finished fifth with a time of 5:29.23 in her collegiate debut.

Sophomore Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) and

freshman Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) tied for sixth place in the high jump with leaps of 5 feet, 1.00 inches. Fitzgibbon also registered a top five finish in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, finishing fourth with a time 9.45 seconds, before coming in seventh in the finals clocking in at 9.58.     

Freshman Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont / U-32) placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with her time of 8.04 seconds, while classmate Hannah Ameen (Andover, Massachusetts/Andover) finished sixth in 8.13. Ameen also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with her time of 26.70-seconds, while Dexter finished 12th clocking in at 26.82

Freshmen Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho) and Taylor Landers (North Andover, Massachusetts/Pingree School) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3000-meter run, with times of 11:30.93 and 11:40.50.

Senior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) recorded a top five finish in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 3.50 inches.

Junior Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross) came in seventh place in the 600-meter dash clocking in at 1:43.07.

Senior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) and Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) took home top ten finishes in the weight throw accomplishing seventh and tenth place, respectively with tosses of 40 feet, 11 inches and 36 feet flat.
