Biddeford, Maine, senior posts fourth career All-America finish, third in 800
ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 23, 2015) – Stonehill College senior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) posted her fourth career All-America finish by taking fourth place in the 800-meter run on the final day of the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Grand Valley State University and the West Michigan Sports Commission, at Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium this evening.
Curit finished a career-high fourth in the 800-meters at an NCAA Championship, wrapping up her illustrious collegiate career by breaking her own school record in the event at 2:06.48. She surpassed her previous mark of 2:06.85 set with her second place finish at the New England Outdoor Championships at MIT two weeks ago. Simon Fraser University senior Lindsay Butterworth ran away with the event title by posting the second-fastest 800-meter time in Division II history at 2:02.88 – just four-tenths off the meet and Division II record set by Teena Colebrook at the 1990 NCAA Championship.

Curit, who qualified for the final with a second place finish in her preliminary heat yesterday in 2:08.22, was second down the backstretch following the start before settling into third after 300-meters. She went into the final 400-meters in fourth after a trip near the start/finish, clocking in at 1:01.65 for the first lap – just 0.39 behind Butterworth who was second at the time. As Butterworth took the lead and checked out on the field, Curit battled for third down the front stretch before settling in at fourth at the finish. It marks her third All-America finish in the 800-meters at an NCAA Championship after taking seventh here at last year's Outdoor Championships in 2:10.75 and then placing eighth at the NCAA II Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, in March with a time of 2:09.42. Curit also collected All-America honors as part of Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay at the 2015 Indoor Championships. She also competed in the long jump at the NCAA Championships this week, placing 18th with a distance of 18-feet, 1.50-inches on Thursday.
Sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) finished 11th in the 3000-meter steeplechase final on Friday night in her first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She finished in 10:42.30 yesterday after qualifying 11th overall on Thursday with a time of 10:38.76.
Stonehill finished the 2014-15 track and field season by winning its second straight Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championship in February, before finishing second in the team standings at the Outdoor Championships last month by just 2.5 points. The Skyhawks also finished ninth at the New England Outdoor Championships and tenth at the New England Indoors.
