Sophomore Nicole Borofski wins 3000-meter steeplechase with a meet record time of 10:47.96
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 2, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, turned in a runner-up finish today at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field.
Stonehill, which held a narrow lead after day one action yesterday, posted five more All-Conference performances, four program records, three event wins and an NCAA Championship provisional qualifying effort today, finishing with 178 points. Host Southern Connecticut edged the Skyhawks for the team title with 180.5 points, while the University of New Haven finished third with 135 points.
Sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), who won the 1500-meter run title yesterday, earned her second NE-10 Championship today with a first-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Borofski set a meet record, clocking in at 10:47.96, while freshman Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy) finished seventh in 12:09.47.
Stonehill dominated in the 800-meter run, compiling 25 points with a sweep of the top two spots and five of the top eight overall. Senior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) successfully defended her NE-10 Outdoor title in the 800, finishing first today with a time of 2:13.82. Sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) earned All-Conference honors with her second place finish in 2:14.53, while senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) followed in fifth (2:18.27), freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) took seventh (2:19.19) and senior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) wrapped up Stonehill's scoring in the event with her eighth place finish in 2:20.30.

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford), who qualified for the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 25.19 seconds in the prelims yesterday, placed fifth with a program record time of 24.91 seconds. Curit also improved her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash with her fourth-place finish 55.42 seconds.
Gray joined Curit in both events, placing seventh in the 200-meter dash finals (25.38 seconds) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (56.94 seconds).
Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay of Gray, junior All-American Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic), Wilson and Curit posted a second place finish in a program record time of 3:47.42 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Gray ran the lead leg in 56.8 seconds, followed by Kent (57.2 seconds) and Wilson (59.27 seconds), while Curit completed the anchor leg in 53.96 seconds.
The Skyhawks' 4x100-meter relay of Gray, Kent, sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) and freshman Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) also turned in a strong performance, finishing third out of ten entries with a time of 48.49 seconds.
Junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) captured her second consecutive NE-10 Outdoor title in the discus throw, breaking a 13-year old program record with a distance of 137 feet, ten inches. Classmate Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), who finished third in the javelin throw yesterday, posted a third-place effort in the discus with a throw of 112 feet.
Freshman Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) and Pierson finished third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put with distances of 40 feet, 1.25 inches and 39 feet, 7.25 inches.
Junior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles finals in 14.62 seconds after qualifying yesterday with a time of 14.79 seconds in the prelims.

Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) and freshman Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 5000-meter run with times of 18:31.78 and 18:32.52, while freshman Abby Hersom (Rockland, Maine/Oceanside) placed 26th (20:11.69).
Kent led a list of four Skyhawk entries in the 100-meter dash prelims, posting the seventh-fastest time in the prelims (12.53 seconds), before finishing sixth in the finals with a time of 12.51 seconds. Polvere (12.83 seconds) and Finley-Moise (12.94 seconds) placed 11th and 15th, respectively, in the prelims, while senior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) posted a time of 13.09 seconds, good for 18th.
Junior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) earned two points with her seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.23, while senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) placed 12th in 1:08.47.
Freshman Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) cleared five feet, 1.75 inches in the high jump, good for ninth, and junior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 4.5 inches.
Junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) and sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished ninth and tenth, respectively in the 800-meter run with times of 2:21.05 and 2:22.02. Freshmen Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) and Erin Colford (Epping, New Hampshire/St. Thomas Aquinas) also competed in the 800, placing 17th and 19th, respectively.
Stonehill will be back in action next Thursday-Saturday at the New England Championships, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.
