Senior Maria Curit sets meet record in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, eight inches
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 1, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, is in first place after day one of the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
Stonehill posted five All-Conference performances, three event wins, two NCAA Championship provisional qualifying efforts, and two program records today on its way to 72 points. Host Southern Connecticut is close behind with 69.50 points, while American International College sits in third with 31.50 points.
Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) set a meet and program record in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 19 feet, eight inches. Curit's mark, which meets the provisional qualifying standard for next month's NCAA Outdoor Championships, ranks 12th on the Division II performance list.
Stonehill swept the top two spots and four of the top five overall in the 1500-meter run, led by sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North), who claimed first place with a program record and NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 4:34.18. Classmate Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) collected All-Conference honors with her second place finish in 4:34.28, while sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) and Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 4:44.90 and 4:45.71.
Curit also competed in the 200-meter dash, qualifying for Saturday's final with a time of 25.19 seconds in the prelims. Junior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) joined Curit in the 200 and also qualified for the finals after clocking in at 25.51 seconds. Curit and Gray posted the sixth and eighth fastest times, respectively.
Freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) turned in the first All-Conference performance of her career in the pole vault, as she cleared ten feet, six inches to finish second overall.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay of senior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield), juniors Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) and freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) placed first with a time of 9:18.55. Carberry ran the lead leg in 2:18.39, followed by Campbell (2:19.38) and Hellman (2:23.87), while Wilson completed the anchor leg in 2:16.92.
Junior Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) just missed earning All-Conference honors in the javelin throw with a distance of 121 feet, nine inches, good for third. Classmate Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) earned points with her sixth place finish (110' 11''), while sophomore Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) posted a throw of 102 feet, one inch, good for tenth overall. Lepley also competed in the hammer throw, finishing sixth (134' 1'').
Senior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:22.47, while classmate Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) and freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) finished ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 1500-meter run.
Junior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) qualified for tomorrow's final in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79 seconds, the third-fastest in the prelims. Freshman Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) finished 12th in 15.61 seconds, while senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) and freshman Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) placed 14th and 16th, respectively.
Stonehill will return to action tomorrow on day two of the Outdoor Championships, with the women's triple jump scheduled for 10:30 a.m., and the women's 4x100-meter relay slated for 12:30 p.m.
