Stonehill Places Third At Skyhawk Invitational


Senior All-American Maria Curit provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.95 seconds tonight.

EASTON, Mass. (April 24, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, turned in a third-place finish at its annual home event, the Skyhawk Invitational, this evening at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Stonehill compiled 157 points, finishing behind the University of Rhode Island (183 points) and Boston College (162 points). Fellow Northeast-10 Conference members American International College (64 points) and Merrimack College (42 points) rounded out the top-five of the nine-team field.

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) won the 400-meter dash, provisionally qualifying for next month's NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 55.95 seconds. Junior All-Americans Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 58.15 seconds and 59.36 seconds.

Curit also posted an event win in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 4.25 inches, and placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.28 seconds.

Stonehill took two of the top three spots in the 1500-meter run, as sophomores Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) placed second and third respectively, earning times of 4:41.24 and 4:41.85. Classmate Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished eighth in 4:53.69, while senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) followed in tenth and clocked in at 4:57.59.

Senior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) was among six Stonehill entries in the 800-meter run, as she finished third overall with a time of 2:16.73. Freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) placed fifth in 2:20.36, while senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) and McAdams finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) led a list of four Skyhawks in the 100-meter dash, placing fourth out of 26 participants with a time of 12.83 seconds. Freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) finished sixth (13.00), while senior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) and freshman Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 13.03 and 13.07 seconds. Tobin also competed in the pole vault and cleared nine feet, eight inches, good for fourth overall.

Stonehill collected 15 points in the javelin throw with a trio of top-eight finishes, led by junior Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) who won the event with a distance of 119 feet, three inches. Junior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) placed fifth with a throw of 108 feet, ten inches, while sophomore Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) finished eighth (105 feet, four inches). Lepley and Tenczar also placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the hammer throw.


Junior Erin Carberry qualified for the New England Championships in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.47.

Junior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) qualified for the New England Championships with her third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.47, while senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) followed in sixth place (1:08.59).

Junior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) earned six points towards Stonehill's score with her third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, as she posted a time of 14.70 seconds. Freshman Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) finished 14th in 15.81 seconds, and Hanlon rounded out Stonehill's three entries in the event with a 17th-place finish in 16.48 seconds. Fitzgibbon also finished second in the high jump after clearing four feet, 11.75 inches.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay of Gray, Kent, Esernio and Curit placed second with a time of 4:05.06, while the 4x100-meter relay of Finley-Moise, Gray, Polvere and Kent also posted a runner-up effort and clocked in at 50.01 seconds.           

Freshman Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) turned in a  a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 1.25 inches, while junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) finished seventh (37 feet, 0.25 inches). Pierson also recorded a distance of 126 feet, eight inches in the discus throw, good for third overall, and freshman Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) placed sixth (108 feet).

Junior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) finished second in the triple jump (35 feet, 1.25 inches), and tenth in the long jump (15 feet, seven inches).

Stonehill will be back in action next weekend at the 2015 NE-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.
