Stonehill Finishes Fourth At Holy Cross Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 18, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, set three program records and posted a fourth-place finish today at the Holy Cross Invitational, hosted by the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Stonehill, which was the only Division II program in the seven-team field, compiled 84 points to finish ahead of Bryant University (51 points), Colgate University (41 points), and the University of Hartford (21 points). Holy Cross won the team title with 218 points, followed by the University of Massachusetts Amherst (190 points) and the University of Maine (118 points).

Junior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) set a program record in the 200-meter dash, finishing second out of 27 participants with a time of 25.14 seconds. Classmate and fellow All-American Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) followed Gray in fourth place and clocked in at 25.99 seconds, while sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) and freshman Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 26.97 and 27.00 seconds.

Junior Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) set one of two program records today in throwing events, as she finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 131 feet, eight inches. Sophomore Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) posted seventh-place finishes in both the javelin and hammer throws, while her effort of 134 feet, 11 inches in the hammer set a new program mark.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay of Gray, Kent, senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) and freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished first and clocked in at 3:53.87. Gray ran the lead leg in 57.0 seconds, and she was followed by Kent (59.1) and Curit (55.8), while Campbell completed the anchor leg in 61.2 seconds.

Kent (12.52 seconds), Gray (12.57 seconds), and Finley-Moise (12.75) took sixth, seventh, and eighth in the 100-meter dash, while Polvere and senior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) finished 12th and 16th, respectively.  

Junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) posted an event win in the discus throw, earning a distance of 128 feet, two inches. Booth-Howe finished seventh with a throw of 108 feet, four inches, while freshman Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) placed 16th. Farrell and Pierson also finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the shot put.

Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) led three Stonehill entries in the 1500-meter run with her seventh-place finish in 4:54.95. Classmate Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) followed in ninth with a time of 4:56.48, while freshman Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy) placed 13th in 5:02.94.


Junior Leanne Kent finished fourth in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash.

Junior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) turned in a time of 14.97 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, good for third overall, while freshman Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) and senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) finished seventh and tenth, respectively. Fitzgibbon also cleared five feet, one inch in the high jump to finish ninth.

Junior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and senior Erin Rielly (Burlingtom, Massachusetts/Burlington) led six Stonehill entries in the 800-meter run with their seventh and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Carberry posted a time of 2:18.61, and Rielly clocked in at 2:19.30.

Campbell placed 13th in the 400-meter dash, earning a time of 1:01.51, while classmate Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) finished 16th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:48.44.  

Junior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) turned in ninth and 11th-place performances in the long jump and triple jump, respectively, with leaps of 16 feet, 7.75 inches, and 33 feet, 5.75 inches.

Freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) cleared nine feet, nine inches in the pole vault, good for a tenth-place finish. She also placed 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.14 seconds, while Esernio (27.08 seconds) and Russo (27.74 seconds) finished tenth and 18th, respectively.

Junior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) and freshman Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) placed tenth and 15th, respectively, in the hammer throw with distances of 120 feet, nine inches, and 78 feet, 11 inches.

Stonehill returns to action next Friday when it hosts the 8th Annual Skyhawk Invitational, held at W.B. Mason Stadium.
