Stonehill Posts Fifth-Place Finish At Minuteman Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. (April 11, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked No. 7 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, turned in a fifth-place finish today at the Minuteman Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Stonehill, which was one of two Division II programs competing in the nine-team field, posted two event wins and 11 top-five finishes in compiling its 83 points. Boston College won the team title with 150 points, followed by Northeastern University (147 points) and host UMass Amherst (143 points).

Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) turned in one of two event wins for the Skyhawks in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.64 seconds, while also placing second in the 200-meter dash in 25.58 seconds.

Curit was joined in the 400 by junior All-American Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), who finished fifth and posted a time of 58.36 seconds.

Senior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) led six Stonehill entries in the 800-meter run with her third-place finish in 2:16.35. Sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) placed ninth with a time of 2:20.57, and freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) followed in 15th, clocking in at 2:22.52.

Junior All-American Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.76 seconds, while senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) and freshman Phoebe Fitzgibbon (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood) finished 19th and 21st, respectively. Fitzgibbon also posted a 12th-place effort in the high jump after clearing four feet, 7.5 inches.

Junior All-American Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) turned in a pair of strong performances in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, finishing sixth and eighth respectively with times of 12.68 and 26.68 seconds.

Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay of Curit, Kent, Gray, and sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) placed third in 49.12 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay of Wilson, McAdams, senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) and junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) finished seventh with a time of 4:13.76.

Junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) earned fourth place in the discus throw and eighth in the shot put with distances of 118 feet, seven inches and 37 feet, 11.25 inches respectively.

Senior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) placed fourth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:44.75, while junior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 0.25 inches.


Senior Sarah Wilson finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.35.

Junior Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) and Hanlon finished fifth and tenth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:07.04 and 1:10.89.

Sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) posted a time of 4:40.76 in the 1500-meter run, good for tenth overall. Freshman Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) followed in 21st and earned a mark of 4:56.40.

Junior Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 115 feet, one inch, and also posted a ninth-place finish in the discus throw. Sophomore Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) earned sixth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 121 feet, one inch. Junior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) also competed in the hammer, placing ninth with a throw of 107 feet, 11 inches.

Freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) and Finley-Moise placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the 100-meter dash with times of 12.99 and 13.07 seconds. Senior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) posted finishes of 26th in the 100 and 29th in the 200.

Freshman Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy) turned in a time of 12:32.09 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, good for sixth place.  

Stonehill will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University, and the Holy Cross Invitational, hosted by the College of the Holy Cross.
