Stonehill Opens Outdoor Season With Third-Place Finish At Yellow Jacket Invitational


Junior All-American Jordan Gray placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.07 seconds.

Skyhawks earn 75.5 points to place first among NCAA Division II programs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 4, 2015) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team opened its outdoor season today with a third-place finish at the fifth annual Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College at the John G. Hoyt Track & Field Complex in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Stonehill, which compiled 75.5 points, was among 14 programs from all three NCAA divisions competing today. Northeastern University finished first with 148 points, while the University of Vermont placed second with 90 points. Host American International College followed Stonehill in fourth with 69 points, and Wellesley College rounded out the top-five with 68 points.

Sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) led eight Stonehill entries in the 1500-meter run, placing third in 4:49.61. Senior Erin Rielly (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) followed in fifth with a time of 4:54.82, while classmate Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) clocked in at 4:57.48, good for eighth overall.

Junior All-Americans Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) posted a pair of strong performances in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash, respectively, as Gray finished second in the 200 with a time of 26.07 seconds and Kent placed fourth in the 400 in 1:00.23.

Junior Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, New Jersey/Hanover Park) contributed ten points towards Stonehill's team score with fourth-place finishes in both the shot put and discus throw. Pierson earned a distance of 36 feet, 5.25 inches in the shot put, and 115 feet, 7.75 inches in the discus. Freshman Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) also earned points in the shot put, placing seventh with a throw of 35 feet, four inches.

Stonehill's lone event win of the day came in the 4x400-meter relay, which placed first with a time of 4:06.83, while the 4x100-meter relay finished fourth in 51.44 seconds. Stonehill also entered a second team in the 4x400 relay, which did not earn points but placed third overall in 4:22.56.  

Senior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) placed third and turned in a time of 2:18.05 in the 800-meter run, while freshman Paige Campbell (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished seventh in 2:24.72.

Junior Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 112 feet, 3.25 inches, and sophomore Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) recorded a distance of 126 feet, 1.25 inches in the hammer throw, good for seventh overall. Junior Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) also competed in the hammer, placing 11th with a throw of 115 feet, 7.75 inches.

Freshman Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.25 seconds. Senior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) placed 11th in 16.93 seconds, while also posting an eighth-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.51.

Junior Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, Rhode Island/Coventry) placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, two inches, while freshman Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) tied for eighth in the pole vault after clearing eight feet, six inches.


Junior Trisha Pierson placed fourth in both the shot put and discus throw today.

Junior Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) placed tenth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:58.48. Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) followed in 11th and clocked in at 4:58.85, while sophomore Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished 13th in 5:00.34. Freshmen Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) and Madison McGlone (Bellmore, New York/John F. Kennedy) rounded out Stonehill's eight entries in the event with 21st and 25th-place finishes, respectively.

Sophomore Tulie Finley-Moise (Lexington, Massachusetts/Lexington) finished 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.30 seconds. Senior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) and Fitzgerald placed 16th and 21st, respectively.

Finley-Moise also posted a 15th-place effort in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 27.34 seconds, while freshman Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), Russo, and Boyd finished 17th, 22nd, and 24th, respectively.

Freshman Julianne Holbrook (Pembroke, Massachusetts/Pembroke) and Farrell placed 20th and 24th in the discus throw, respectively.

Stonehill will be back in action next Friday at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, and Saturday at the Minuteman Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
