Curit Leads Stonehill On Day One Of NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Senior All-American qualifies for 800-meter run final after winning her preliminary heat in 2:09.42

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 13, 2015) – Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) qualified for the 800-meter run final to highlight the Stonehill College women's track & field team's participation on day one of the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships today at the CrossPlex complex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Curit won her preliminary heat with a time of 2:09.42, the fourth fastest mark out of 18 entries, to advance to tomorrow's 800-meter run final at 5 p.m. She just needs to finish the race to earn her second consecutive All-America honor in the 800, as she placed seventh and clocked in at 2:10.75 last May at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Allendale, Michigan.

Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay was also in action on day one, finishing 11th of 13 entries with a time of 11:47.00. Sophomore Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) got it started with a 3:40.9 split in the opening 1200-meter leg, junior Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) followed with a 56.8-second effort in the 400-meter leg, while Curit posted a mark of 2:12.9 in the 800-meter leg, and sophomore Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) completed the 1-mile anchor leg in 4:56.3.

Curit will get day two action started for Stonehill tomorrow at 5 p.m. with the 800-meter run final, followed by Borofski in the 3000-meter run at 5:40 p.m. Curit will then be joined by Gray and juniors Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) and Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) in the 4x400-meter relay at 6:15 p.m., marking her fourth race over the course of the two day event.
