EASTON, Mass. (March 9, 2015) – Stonehill College head women's track & field coach Karen Boen has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year for the indoor season, the league office announced last Thursday.

Boen led the Stonehill women to their second consecutive NE-10 indoor title on February 21st, as the Skyhawks posted six event wins and ten All-Conference performances to edge Southern Connecticut State University with 160.5 total points. The following weekend, Boen guided Stonehill to a tenth-place finish at the New England Championships, marking the first time in program history that the Skyhawks have finished inside the top-10 at the meet in consecutive seasons.

Stonehill will cap its indoor campaign this weekend at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama, with six Skyhawk women making the trip. Senior All-American Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) will be competing with Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay, and she will be joined by juniors Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville), Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), and Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic).

Curit will also be running with Stonehill's 4000-meter distance medley relay team along with Gray and sophomores Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) and Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown). In addition to the relays, Curit is one of two Stonehill entries in individual events, as she is set to compete in the 800-meter run, while Borofski will make her first NCAA Championship appearance in the 3000-meter run.

Now in her 17th year at Stonehill, Boen also serves as the head coach of Stonehill's men's track & field team, as well as both the men's and women's cross country programs. Last fall, she was named NE-10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 12th time in her career after leading the Skyhawks to their 13th consecutive conference championship and 15th straight trip to the NCAA Championships.

Boen is being honored as NE-10 Track & Field Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career (third for women), and first time since 2008, when she collected the accolades for both the men's and women's indoor seasons. Overall, she has earned a combined 22 conference coach of the year awards for track & field (five) and cross country (17).
