Bishop And Regan Highlight Day Two Of New England Championships


Senior Chelsea Bishop finished fourth and broke her own school record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:14.23.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (May 9, 2014) – Seniors Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield) and Emily Regan (Hanson, Massachusetts/Whitman-Hanson) registered All-New England efforts in the 5000-meter run to highlight Stonehill's performance today at day two of the 2014 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Westfield State University at Alumni Field.

Bishop placed fourth and broke her own school record with a time of 17:14.23, while improving her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships. Regan finished sixth and earned a time of 17:18.85, and junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) placed 25th in 18:30.75.


Senior Emily Regan earned All-New England honors in the 5000-meter run after finishing sixth in 17:18.85.

Sophomore Erin Carberry (Milton, Massachusetts/Thayer Academy) placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 1:06.20, while  senior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vermont/Essex) finished 24th in 1:08.20.

Sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) placed 14th in the 100-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 15.01 seconds, but failed to qualify for tomorrow's final, and classmate Jordan Gray (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) finished 17th in the 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 58.54 seconds.

Junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) tied for tenth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 4.25 inches.

Senior Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Massachusetts/Framingham) placed 37th in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 12.83 seconds.

Stonehill, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, will be back in action tomorrow with the final day of the New England Championships at Alumni Field.
