Seven Skyhawks earn All-Conference accolades
EASTON, Mass. (May 2, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, is in first place after day one of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Stonehill at W.B. Mason Stadium.
Stonehill, which was picked by the NE-10's head coaches as the favorite to win this weekend's event, holds the lead after Friday's action with 89 total points. Southern Connecticut State University sits in second with 50 points, followed by the University of New Haven (31 points), Merrimack College (27), and American International College (23) to round out the top five.
Senior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Connecticut/Suffield), who was seeded first in the 10,000-meter run entering this weekend's Championship, won the event for the second consecutive year with a time of 35:58.17. Bishop's effort, which set both program and W.B. Mason Stadium records, also improved on her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships, which will be held from May 22nd-24th at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Bishop currently ranks 18th nationally in the event following today's performance.

Junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) earned All-Conference honors in the long jump, as she broke her own school record with a leap of 18 feet, 9.25 inches to place second overall and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Curit also set a program record in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 25.56 seconds, good for sixth overall. Curit will compete in tomorrow's 200 final at 3:15 p.m.
Senior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, New York/Goshen) collected All-Conference honors in the pole vault for the second consecutive outdoor season, as she placed second with a mark of ten feet, eight inches.
Sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) set a program record in the 100-meter hurdles prelims and narrowly missed provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships, as she clocked in at 14.57 seconds, good for third overall. Esernio will be back in action with tomorrow's finals at 1:20 p.m.
Stonehill was well represented in the 1500-meter run, as Skyhawks took six of the top seven spots. Senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Connecticut/New Fairfield) won the event with a time of 4:39.01, while junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Connecticut/Manchester) placed second after crossing the finish line in 4:39.32. Freshman Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown), junior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle Cassidy) and freshman Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Sophomore Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Massachusetts/Chicopee) and freshman Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the hammer throw, for 11 combined points towards Stonehill's score. Tenczar's throw reached a school record distance of 130 feet, nine inches, while Lepley registered a mark of 127 feet, five inches. Tenczar also placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 113 feet, one inch, while sophomore Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) earned seventh with a throw of 107 feet, eight inches, and Lepley checked in at eighth as her throw reached 106 feet, five inches.
Senior Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Massachusetts/Framingham) and sophomore Leanne Kent (North Andover, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) finished ninth and tenth respectively, in the 100-meter dash prelims with times of 12.62 and 12.71 seconds. Although both failed to qualify for the finals, Egesi's time met the standard to qualify for the New England Championships.
Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay of LaRegina, Venturo, Anderson, and sophomore Molly Hellman (Rumson, New Jersey/Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) finished second to Merrimack College with a time of 9:18.85, good for eight team points.
Senior Angelina Comei (Bradford, Massachusetts/Haverhill) sits in sixth place in the heptathlon after four events. Comei placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44 seconds, while also turning in a third-place effort in the high jump after clearing five feet, 0.25 inches.
Day two of the NE-10 Championships will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. at W.B. Mason Stadium, beginning with the men's discus throw.
