Senior Chelsea Bishop registered one of five event wins for Stonehill today, as she finished first in the 5000-meter run with a school record time of 17:15.40.

Skyhawks win home event for the first time following three consecutive second-place finishes

EASTON, Mass. (April 25, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked first in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, took first place today at the 7^th Annual Skyhawk Invitational, hosted by Stonehill College at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Senior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) posted the first of Stonehill's five event wins, as she took the top spot in the 5000-meter run with a program record time of 17:15.40. Bishop's time, which was more than 1:37 faster than the second place finisher, also met the qualifying standard for the New England Championships.

Junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) won the 800-meter run in a program-record time of 2:11.89, while classmate Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) crossed the finish line second in 2:14.76. Curit also turned in a second place effort in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, five inches, matching the school record that she set at the 2013 Skyhawk Invitational.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay of Curit, Wilson, and sophomores Leanne Kent (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) and Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) placed first in 3:55.19, edging Boston College for ten team points. Gray ran the opening leg in 58 seconds, followed by Wilson in 60 seconds, Kent in a matching 60, and finally Curit completed the anchor leg in 57 seconds. Stonehill also claimed the top spot with its 4x800-meter relay, which finished 40 seconds ahead of second place Boston College in 9:26.52.

Gray also took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.11 seconds, which was good enough to qualify for the New England Championships next month. Classmate Erin Carberry (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) finished sixth in 1:01.29.

Sophomore Maria Curit won today's 800-meter run with a program record mark of 2:11.89.

Junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 1500-meter run, with times of 4:38.15 and 4:38.52. Both times were good enough to qualify for the New England Championships.

Senior Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) finished third in the 3000-meter run in 10:07.07, sandwiched between six Boston College competitors.

Senior Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Kent earned nine team points for Stonehill in the 100-meter dash, as they placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Egesi turned in a time of 12.69 seconds, while Kent finished in 12.74 seconds. Kent was also Stonehill's top finisher in the 200-meter dash, as she placed fifth with a time of 26.25 seconds.

Senior Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) finished second in the triple jump with a school record distance of 36 feet, 2.25 inches, behind only Shantel Noble of American International College.

Stonehill won the Skyhawk Invitational for the first time in its seven year history, following runner-up finishes in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The Skyhawks compiled 152 team points, while Boston College finished second (143 points), followed by the University of Rhode Island (137), and Boston University (83) in the ten team field.

Senior Angelina Comei set a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 2.25 inches.

Sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82 seconds, while junior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) placed 15^th in 16.62 seconds.

Sophomore Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) and freshman Nicole Gilcoine (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) finished sixth and seventh, respectively in the shot put with distances of 37 feet, 0.5 inches, and 36 feet, 6.75 inches. Pierson also placed second in the discus throw with a toss of 122 feet, eight inches.

Sophomore Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) led a list of four Skyhawks in the javelin throw, as she placed fourth with a distance of 111 feet, two inches. Freshman Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) finished fifth with a throw of 110 feet, 11 inches, while sophomore Haela Booth-Howe (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) placed sixth with a mark of 109 feet, two inches. Tenczar also placed eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 123 feet, 11 inches, while freshman Maggie Lepley (Lynn, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) finished ninth with a throw of 120 feet, one inch.

Freshman Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) placed sixth in the high jump after clearing four feet, 11.5 inches, while senior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) finished seventh in the pole vault with a height of nine feet, 6.25 inches.

Stonehill will be back in action next weekend, as the Skyhawks are set to host the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships back at W.B. Mason Stadium. This will mark the second time that Stonehill has hosted the NE-10 Championship, after doing so in 2010.
