4x800 Relay Highlights Day Two Of 49th Annual Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 5, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked seventh in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, was back in action today with day two of the 49th Annual Colonial Relays, hosted by The College of William & Mary at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.

Stonehill's 4x800 meter relay team of senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and juniors Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford), Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) provided the highlight of the day for the Skyhawks, as it placed fifth overall out of 24 teams with a program-record time of 9:04.39.

Curit was also part of Stonehill's 4x200 meter relay, along with seniors Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) and sophomore Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) that finished 15th out of 23 teams in 1:44.89, while the squad of senior Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill), junior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop), sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and freshman Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) placed 23rd in 1:50.42.

Stonehill finished tied for 24th as a team with 14 total points. Rutgers University finished first with 111 points, and Villanova University placed second with 76 team points.


Sophomore Trisha Pierson placed 12th in the unseeded shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 4.25 inches.

Stonehill's second entry in the 4x800 meter relay of senior Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), junior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy), and sophomores Erin Carberry (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) and Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) finished 15th in 9:29.16.

Stonehill also had a pair of entries in the 4x1500 meter relay. The team of freshmen Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield), Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), Alexandra Grimaldo (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) and Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) placed 13th in 19:46.35, while senior Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy), Ulcena and Hellman finished 17th in 20:07.34.

Other Stonehill highlights include: 
Comei placed 14th in the unseeded section of the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 5.75 inches. She also tied for ninth in the unseeded high jump after clearing four feet, 11 inches, while Stevens tied for 15th with a height of four feet, nine inches.

Freshman Nicole Gilcoine (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) tied for tenth in the unseeded shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 5.75 inches, and sophomore Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) finished two spots behind her, in 12th with a toss of 36 feet, 4.25 inches.

Stonehill will head to Amherst, Mass. next weekend for the Minutemen Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts at the UMass Track & Athletic Complex.
