Curit sets program marks in the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run
Bishop places second, posts school record time in 10,000-meter run

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 4, 2014) – After a week off, the Stonehill College women's track & field team, ranked seventh in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Computer Rankings, returned to action today competing against primarily Division I competition at the 49th Annual Colonial Relays, hosted by The College of William & Mary at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.
Senior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) registered Stonehill's top performance of the day, as she placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a school record time of 36:39.29, earning ten team points for the Skyhawks in the process. Although Bishop finished second overall, she was the top finisher among collegiate participants, as the event winner was part of a club team. Bishop eclipsed the previous school record, set almost a year ago to the day by Caroline McBride, '13, by over 36 seconds.
Junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) posted a pair of program record performances, as she placed ninth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.92, while also finishing 22nd out of 89 entries in the 200-meter dash in 25.56 seconds. Junior Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) also competed in the 800-meter run, earning a time of 2:16.41, good for 30th overall. Both Bishop and Curit's efforts were good enough to automatically qualify for the New England Championships and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships next month.
Sophomore Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) tied for 13th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.77 seconds, and she also had a strong effort in the 200-meter dash, placing 32nd in 25.84 seconds.
Senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) led a list of three Skyhawks in the 1500-meter run, as she placed 21st among 51 entries with a time of 4:39.55. LaRegina was just over three seconds shy of matching the mark of 4:36.43 that Stonehill All-American Dana DeIngenis set at the New England Championships in 2007. Junior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) finished four spots behind LaRegina in 25th after earning a time of 4:41.10, and junior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) placed 43rd in 4:47.97.
Stonehill got several solid efforts from its three entries in the 400-meter hurdles, as senior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) placed 17th out of 61 participants in 1:05.31, while sophomore Erin Carberry (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) and junior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) finished 37th and 55th, respectively.
Stonehill also had a pair of entries in the 100-meter hurdles prelims. Sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) posted the 20th fastest time, clocking in at 15.09 seconds, but failed to qualify for the final. Hanlon also competed, earning a time of 17.24 seconds, good for 45th.

Freshmen Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) finished within two spots of each other in the 3000-meter run. Borofski placed 26th and McAdams placed 28th in 10:31.80 and 10:34.44 respectively, among a field of 48 participants.
Senior Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman Hanson) finished 24th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:41.47, while junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) placed 44th in 18:38.63.
Stonehill had two entries in the 100-meter dash prelims, junior Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) and senior Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham). Egesi posted the 59th fastest time with a mark of 13.22 seconds, while Russo clocked in at 13.48 seconds, but neither qualified for the final.
Last night, freshman Margaret Lepley (Lynn, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) finished ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 113 feet, 8 inches. Lepley also competed in the javelin throw today, recording a toss of 108 feet, two inches, good for ninth place.
Sophomore Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) finished 12th in the discus throw, recording a heave of 121 feet, 8 inches.
Stonehill will be back in action tomorrow at day two of the 49th Annual Colonial Relays, before heading to Amherst, Mass. next weekend for the Minutemen Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts at the UMass Track & Athletic Complex.
