Curit and Wilson will compete in 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively

EASTON, Mass. (March 6, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team will have entries in three events at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, held at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.
Juniors Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) and Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) will compete in the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run, respectively, while the 4000-meter distance medley relay will be making its first-ever appearance at the NCAA Championships for Stonehill.
Curit qualifies for her first NCAA Championship with a time of 56.09 seconds in the 400-meter dash, which ranks as the tenth fastest mark nationally. Curit posted a time of 55.76 seconds on February 22nd at the Northeast-10 Championship, before improving on that time last weekend, when she turned in a school-record 55.35 effort at the New England Championships.
Wilson also qualifies for her first NCAA Championship with a time of 2:13.75 in the 800-meter run, as she is seeded 14th in the event. Wilson set the school-record time last weekend at the New England Championships, placing third for her second career All-New England performance.
Stonehill's distance medley relay team of Curit, classmate Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester), senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), and sophomore Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) will be making the first appearance at an NCAA Championship in program history. The DMR will head to North Carolina having won both NE-10 and New England Championships, and the relay currently owns the fourth-fastest time nationally, 11:49.30.
The NCAA Championships will begin on Friday, March 14th, with Curit competing in the 400-meter dash prelims at 3:50 p.m., followed by Wilson in the 800-meter run prelims at 4:50 p.m. The DMR will cap off the first day of action with the finals at 7:30 p.m.
Prior to this year, Stonehill's last entry at the NCAA Championships was in 2009, when Jen Gardynski, '09, competed in the 3000-meter steeple chase at the Outdoor Championships in San Angelo, Texas. Dana DeIngenis, '07, earned bids to consecutive Outdoor Championships in 2006 and 2007, in the 1500-meter run, while also competing at the 2007 Indoor Championship in the 1-mile run.
Stonehill, ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Computer Rankings, won its first Northeast-10 Championship two weekends ago, before placing eighth last weekend at the New England Championship, its highest finish in program history.
