EASTON, Mass. (February 11, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's 4x400-meter relay team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Relay of the Week for women's track and field, the league office announced yesterday.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./), sophomores Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) and Leanne Kent (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic), and junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) placed seventh overall among a field of 53 squads with a time of 3:51.48 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. Their time was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. next month, and it currently ranks as the 17th fastest time nationally.

Polakowski ran the opening leg in 59.8 seconds before handing off to Gray, who posted a split of 56.3 seconds, followed by Kent, who turned in a time of 58.5 seconds, and finally Curit finished the anchor leg in 56.2 seconds. Their time set a school record by less than one second.

This marks the second consecutive week that a Stonehill relay team has been recognized by the NE-10, as last week's 4000-meter distance medley relay team of senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), junior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield), Gray and Curit won Relay of the Week after its provisional qualifying performance at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet on February 1st. Gray and Curit have now earned a combined seven NE-10 Relay of the Week awards in their careers, as Gray was recognized three times for her efforts in the 4x400 meter relay last season, and Curit was honored twice in 2012-13 for the same event. Polakowski collects her fourth Relay of the Week award after doing so three times last season, while Kent is being recognized for the first time in her career.

Stonehill, ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Computer Rankings, will be back in action this Saturday at the Tufts Cupid Challenge, hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Athletic Center in Medford, Mass.
