Skyhawks Hold Sixth Place After Day Two of New England’s


Chelsea Bishop took fourth place in the 10,000-meter race during day two of New England Championships

McBride and Bishop take third and fourth in the 10,000-meter race to lead the Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (May 10, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team are in sixth place with 11 points after day two of the New England Track and Field Championships, hosted by Stonehill College at W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton, Mass.

Three Stonehill student-athletes placed in the top-eight of their individual competitions on day two. Senior Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield), and Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) all earned All-New England  recognition during the day.

Curit opened the day with an eighth place finish in the long jump event for Stonehill. The sophomore qualified for the finals with a 17-09.25 jump and posted a 17-11.75 measurement to earn eighth place and All-New England honors.

Two more Skyhawks registered top-eight finishes in the 10,000-meter race. McBride finished in third place, while Bishop took fourth to collect eleven points for Stonehill. McBride finished the race in 38:10.31 and Bishop crossed the finish-line in 38:17.81.

Other Notable Finishes:

Curit placed ninth and Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) took 17th in the 400-meter dash. Curit clocked in at 56.57 while Gray earned a time of 57.56 seconds.

Junior Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) competed in the 5,000-meter race. Regan took 22nd place in 19:14.77, while Veit earned 23rd in 19:28.83.

Freshman Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) placed 14th in the 100-meter hurdles. Esernio finished with a time of 15.06 seconds in the event.

Freshman Erin Carberry (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) and junior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction Vt./Essex) participated in the 400-meter hurdles. Carberry took 12th (1:04.97), while Polakowski claimed 30th (1:08.81).

The Skyhawks return to action Saturday afternoon for the final day of the New England Championships. Competition opens at 10:00 am with the women's heptathlon long jump event at 10:00 am.
