Junior Chelsea Bishop placed first in the 10,000-meter race in a time of 38:55.27

Bishop and Regan take first and second in the 10,000 to lead Stonehill in Day One

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 3, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's track and field program recorded 52 points and are in first place after day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Track and Field Championships on the campus of American International College in Springfield, Mass.

Seven student-athletes placed in the top-eight of individual events, while one relay team placed for Stonehill in the opening day of the Championships. Juniors Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman Hanson) led the way for Stonehill after they placed first and second in the 10,000-meter race. Bishop claimed first place when she registered a time of 38:55.27, while Regan timed in at 39:09.41 to claim second.

Junior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) added eight points for the Skyhawks when she placed second in the pole vault event. Olin tied her own school record when she cleared a height of 10-00.00 feet to claim second. Olin previously cleared 10-00.00 last week at the Skyhawk Invitational.

The Skyhawks got a third place finish from sophomore Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester). Anderson registered third place in the 1500-meter race in a personal-best time of 4:37.55. With the third place finish, Anderson collected six points for the team.

Junior Emily Regan placed second in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 39:09.41

Stonehill received a second-place finish from its 4x800 relay team. The team, consisting of Anderson, Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington), and Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield), finished with a time of 9:14.14 to earn second. The time fell just three seconds shy of the school record set last year at the Penn Relays.

Two Skyhawks earned top-seven finishes in throwing during day one of the meet. Freshman Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) placed third in the discus throw, while classmate Jenn Tenczar (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee) registered seventh place in the javelin throw. Pierson measured a personal-best distance of 128-04 to take third, and Tenczar recorded a distance of 107-09 to take seventh.

Sophomore Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) posted the final points of the afternoon for the Skyhawks. Curit claimed a fifth place finish in the long jump with a m18-02.25 jump to earn four points for Stonehill.

Sprinter Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) set herself up to earn points for the Skyhawks when she qualified for the finals with a top-eight performance in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary round. Esernio finished with a time of 15.19 seconds to advance to the finals tomorrow.

Stonehill looks to defend its lead in the final 14 events slated for tomorrow afternoon's final day of competition. The action begins 10:30 am with the women's shot put event.
