Skyhawks Compete at Day Two of Duke Invitational

Curit posts two top-10 performances for Stonehill

DURHAM, N.C (April 6, 2013) –The Stonehill College women's track and field program competed at day two of the Duke University Invitational Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Sophomore Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) led the way for Stonehill with a pair of top-ten finishes. Curit registered tenth place in the 400-meter dash before claiming an eighth place finish in the long jump. The sophomore finished the 400 in 57.56, just .24 seconds ahead of teammate Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate), who finished in 14th. Curit also registered a 17-01.50 distance in the long jump to earn eighth.

Freshman Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) led a trio of Skyhawk participants in the 100-meter hurdle event. Esernio recorded an 11th place finish in 15.14 seconds, with Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) placing 28th in 16.66, and Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) earning a 36th place finish (19.39).

The Skyhawks had several solid finishes in field events, with Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) and Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) posting top-15 finishes in their respective events. Comei earned 11th in the high jump when she cleared 5-00.25 feet and Pierson took 14th in the discus throw with a toss of 121-01.

Kristen Veit (Easthampton,Mass./Holyoke Catholic) also recorded a top-15 finish for Stonehill. The senior distance runner raced to 14th place in the 3000-meter steeplechase event. Veit finished in 11:39.52.

Other Notable Finishes

Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) placed 50th (13.43) and Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) took 51st (13.54) in the 100-meter dash.

Russo claimed a 65th place finish (27.68) and Egesi took 72nd (28.26) in the 200-meter dash.

Stonehill returns to competition Saturday the 13th when it competes at the University of Massachusetts' UMass Minuteman Invitational.
