Stonehill Participates in Day One of Duke Invitational

McBride's school-record highlights day one for Stonehill

DURHAM, N.C. (APRIL 5, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team competed in day one of the Duke University Invitational Friday afternoon at Wallace Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Senior Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) recorded a school-record mark and a top-eight finish for the Skyhawks in the 10,000-meter race. The senior posted sixth-place in a school-record time of 37:16.70, breaking her old time of 37:31.77 that posted at the New England Championships last year. Junior Emily Regan (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) also participated in the 10,000-meter race, taking 15th place in 39:29.12.

Junior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) led a trio of Skyhawks competing in the 5000-meter race. Bishop posted a 18:38.19 mark, while Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) finished in 18:49.13, and Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) earned a time of 19:11.67.

Sophomore Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) posted a top-15 finish in the 1500-meter race. Anderson finished in 4:39.12, just five seconds behind the tenth-place finisher.

Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) and Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) competed in the 1500-meter developmental race. Rielly earned tenth in 4:50.78, while Venturo placed 26th in 4:59.56.

Four student-athletes competed in the 400-meter hurdles for the Skyhawks. Junior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) led the group with a 21st place finish in 1:06.78. Erin Carberry (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) came in at 1:07.38, while Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) earned a 1:09.66 time, and Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) posted a time of 1:10.87.

Stonehill continues competition in the Duke Invitational tomorrow morning, with the first event commencing at 9:00 am.
