Relay Teams Shine as Women’s Track Competes at Day Two of New England Championships

Records fall as Stonehill women compete on day two of New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. (February 23, 2013) – The Stonehill women's track field team competed in three events on day two of the New England Track and Field Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, Mass.

The 4x400 relay team consisting of Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate), Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), and Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) posted a time of 3:52.15, breaking the school record and provisionally qualified for NCAA Championships.

Gray ran the lead leg in 56.9 seconds, followed by Polakowski in 59.2, Esernio timed in at 59.6, and Curit ran the anchor leg in 56.2 seconds. The Skyhawks claimed seventh place and were named to the All-New England team.

The 4x800 relay team of Sarah Wilson (Suffield Conn., Suffield), Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington), Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica), and Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) placed fifth with a time of 9:16.59. With the time, the 4x800 team broke the school record and provisionally qualified for NCAA Championships. They were also honored with All-New England recognition.

Wilson opened it up for the Skyhawks, running the lead leg in 2:15.0, Rielly followed in 2:18.5, next was Ulcena in 2:23.9 and LaRegina finished it off in 2:19.0 for the Skyhawks. The Skyhawks broke the previous school record time of 9:27.42 which they had recorded at last year's New England Championships.

Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) was the only other competitor on the day for Stonehill. She ran the 3000-meter race and finished 25th for the Skyhawks with a time of 10:25.52.
