Women’s Track Competes at Day One of the New England Championships


Maria Curit provisionally qulaified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash

DMR improves their time as Stonehill finishes day one of New England's

BOSTON, Mass. (February 22, 2013) The Stonehill Skyhawks women's track and field team competed at the New England Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston Mass.

The distance medley relay team of Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford), Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield), and Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) improved their NCAA provisional qualifying time to 12:05.46. LaRegina started it off with a 3:42.6 1200-meter leg, followed by Curit with a 56.8 time in the 400-meter leg, Wilson went next with a 2:17.2 time in the 800, with Anderson finishing it off with a 5:08.2 mile.

Curit also posted a ninth place finish in the 400-meter dash. The sophomore posted a career-best and school-record time of 57.15 which provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. The time bested her previous career-high which she recorded at the BU Valentine Invitational last year. Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I.) also competed in the 400, placing ninth in a season-best time of 57.92 seconds.

Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) led four Stonehill runners in the 5000-meter race, finishing tenth with a time of 17:47.67. Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) (18:04.76), Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) (18:05.58), and Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) (18:16.20) finished 16th, 17th, and 20th in the race.

Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) and Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven Regional) competed in the 1000-meter race. Rielly finished 14th in 3:00.90 while Hellman came in 27th at 3:08.66.

Freshman Adrienne Thornton (Dorchester, Mass./John D. O'Bryant) launched a 45-10.00 throw in the weight throw event. The four-time NE-10 Field Rookie of the Week placed 18th in the event.

Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y/Ward Melville) and Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) both competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Esernio took 27th in 9.37 seconds while Polakowski finished 31st in 9.48 seconds.
