DMR shines as Track and Field Competes at Tufts Cupid Challenge

DMR earns provisional qualification for NCAA Championships

EASTON, Mass. (February 11, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's track and field Distance Medley Relay team provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships as Stonehill competed at the Tufts University Cupid Challenge on Monday evening.

The distance medley relay team consisting of Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn.), Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine), Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn.), and Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Conn.), earned third place and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 12:19.08. LaRegina opened up the race, running the 1200-meter leg in 3:46.9, followed by Curit who ran the 400-meter leg in 57.3, Wilson ran the 800-meter leg in 2:16.6, Veit finished it off in with a 5:17.6 time in the mile.

Adrienne Thornton (Dorchester, Mass.) collected her fourth top three finish of the season when she claimed second place in the weight throw. The freshman and reigning Field Rookie of the Week recorded a 51-05.75 measurement, less than a foot short of her school record mark (52-05.50).

The Skyhawks had four distance runners finish in the top six of their respective races. Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass.) and Molly Hellman (Rumson, N.J) started if off when Rielly captured second place in the 1000-meter race in 3:05.48 and Hellman took third with a 3:05.97 time. Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass.) earned a fifth place finish in the 3000-meter race. The sophomore distance runner clocked in at 11:04.93, the fastest time of her career. Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass.) placed sixth in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:23.56.

Other notable finishes:

Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass.) recorded a seventh place performance in the high jump event. The junior notched a 4-10.50 measurement to earn seventh.

Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I) and Curit finished eighth and ninth in the 200-meter race. Gray finished in 26.41 while Curit clocked in at 26.42.

Stonehill opens its championship season this Saturday when it competes at the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at 4 p.m.
