4x400 breaks their own school record as Stonehill finishes ninth.

BOSTON, Mass. (January 25, 2013) – The Stonehill Skyhawks women's track and field team placed ninth out of twelve teams at the Joe Donahue Games Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

The 4x400 relay team recorded a school record time of 3:58.96 and earned second place. Freshman Jordan Gray (Warwick, N.H.) ran the lead leg in 59.2 seconds, junior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt.) followed in 59.9, next was freshman Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y.) who clocked in at 60.4, while sophomore Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine) finished it off in 59.3 seconds. The squad broke their own school record (3:59.49), which they recorded just six days ago at the URI Sorlien Invitational.

Curit placed in two other events for the Skyhawks, who posted 34 team points on the evening. Curit earned a second place finish in the 400-meter dash by posting a 59.51 second time, adding eight points to the team score. The sophomore also led two Stonehill athletes in the long jump, finishing fifth in the event with a 16-11.25 measurement. Stephanie Fitzgerald (Coventry, R.I.) placed 18th in the event.

Gray also posted a top-three finish for Stonehill. She earned third place in the 200-meter dash, posting a 26.23 time and finishing behind sprinters from Holy Cross and Northeastern.

Polakowski was the third member of the 4x400 relay team to earn a top-five finish in another event. The junior earned fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles event by posting a 9.34 time.

Junior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y.) broke the second school record of the day for the Skyhawks when she bested her old record in the pole vault. Olin posted a 10-00.00 vault to break the record (9-10.00) that she previously registered last week at the URI Sorlien Invitational.

Freshman Jordan Gray earned a third place finish in the 400-meter race.

Adrienne Thornton (Dorchester, Mass.), last week's NE-10 Field Rookie of the Week, earned a sixth place finish in the weight throw. Her throw of 50-02.50 feet was just two feet short of the school-record.
