Anderson finishes ninth overall in 1,500-meter run, Hanlon wins 400-meter hurdles

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 29, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's outdoor track and field team compiled seven top-ten performances in a solid outing at the Brown Springtime Open Meet, hosted by Brown University, on Sunday afternoon at Brown Stadium.
Freshman Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) turned in a ninth place performance in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:41.84 out of 31 competitors. Anderson, who finished third overall in the second heat of the event, established a new personal best surpassing her previous mark of 4:46.15 which was set on April 14 at the Skyhawk Invitational on the campus of Stonehill College.
Junior Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) finished 16th overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:48.60 while senior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) ranked 18th overall in 4:52.31 and Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) placed 21st overall (5:02.70).
In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) placed first overall with a personal best time of 1:06.31. Hanlon has competed in the event four times this season eclipsing her previous mark of 1:06.50 at the Holy Cross Crusades on April 21.
Sophomore Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) competed in two field events on the afternoon finishing fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-feet and 6-inches and seventh in the long jump with a mark of 15-feet and 10-inches.
Freshman Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) placed fifth overall in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet and 7-inches. Curit also competed in the 4x800-meter relay yesterday evening in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the 117th edition of the Penn Relays along with teammates senior Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), freshman Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and senior Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central).
The quartet shattered the school record in the event running a total time of 9:11.51 breaking the previous record of 9:26.14 set by Alves, Lindsay Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), Hilary Curtis (Scarborough, Maine) and Kristina Coriaty (Brockton, Mass) on May 9, 2009 at the New England Championships hosted by UMass Amherst.
Junior Katie Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) ranked ninth overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.46-seconds. Classmate Sarah Burke (South Yarmouth, Mass/Dennis-Yarmouth) checked in at 12th overall running a time of 15.96-seconds.
Sophomore Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) finished eighth overall in the 100-meter dash in 12.93-seconds. Freshman Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) was 15th overall with a time of 13.44-seconds. Russo also placed 16th overall in the 200-meter dash (28.24).
In the 800-meter run, sophomore Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) ran a time of 2:17.45 for a 13th place showing while classmate Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) placed 22nd overall in 2:23.74.
Senior Vlada Shelkova (Newington, Conn./Newington) placed 13th overall in the javelin throw with a toss of 83-feet and 3-inches.
Sophomore Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) finished 13th overall in the pole vault clearing a height of 9-feet.
Stonehill returns to action on Friday, May 4 at the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut.
