Curit Sweeps NE-10 Rookie of the Week Awards

EASTON, Mass. (April 16, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Track Rookie and Field Rookie of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

Curit broke two school records, one facility record (4x800-meters), and earned three first place finishes at the Skyhawk Invitational last Saturday. Curit established a new school record in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.58-seconds eclipsing the previous program record of 58.54-seconds by Jackie Burbank which was set on May 4, 2002 at the NE-10 Championships, hosted by Bryant University.

Curit also eclipsed the long jump record with a leap of 17-feet and 11.75-inches to narrowly surpass the previous program high-water mark of 17-feet and 11.5-inches set by Megan King also at the NE-10 Championships on May 4, 2002.

In the 4x800-meter run, Curit ran the lead leg of the event helping the Skyhawks and teammates Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson), Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) finish first overall with a new facility record in 9:32.53.

Counting the indoor season, Curit has earned 13 weekly awards from the NE-10. Curit earned one Track Athlete of the Week award (2/13), three Track Rookie of the Week honors (12/6/11, 1/23 and 2/13) and three Field Rookie of the Week awards (1/23, 2/20, 2/28) during the indoor campaign. So far this season, Curit has earned one Track Athlete of the Week award (4/9), three Track Rookie of the Week selections (4/3, 4/9, 4/16) and two Field Rookie of the Week honors (4/9, 4/16).

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, April 21 at the Holy Cross Crusades hosted by College of the Holy Cross (Hart Track; Worcester, Mass.).
