Skyhawks Post Strong Showing At George Davis Invitational

Curit finishes fourth in 800 meter run, fifth in the long jump for Stonehill

LOWELL, Mass. (April 7, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's outdoor track and field team compiled eight top-ten finishes at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell at the Cushing Field Complex on Saturday evening.

The Skyhawks shined in the 800 meter run as freshman Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) placed fourth overall in a time of 2:17.48, the top finish of any NCAA Division II runner (56 competitors total) in the event.

Senior Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) followed Curit with a fifth place performance running a time of 2:19.22. Freshman Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) placed sixth overall (2:19.69), sophomore Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) ranked seventh overall in 2:20.21 and freshman Erin Rielly (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) rounded out Stonehill's pack in tenth place with a time of 2:20.78.

In the long jump, Curit finished fifth overall with a leap of 17-feet and 11-inches while sophomore Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) ranked 16th overall with a mark of 16-feet and 5-inches and 13th overall in the triple jump (33-feet and 4-inches).

Junior Katie Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) posted a sixth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles running a time of 15.58 seconds. Bernazzani also finished 14th overall in the triple jump with a mark of 33-feet and 3-inches.

Freshman Emily Anderson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) led a plethora of Skyhawks in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:25.17 for ninth place overall and the best NCAA Division II performance out of 53 competitors in the event.

Junior Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) finished 13th overall in 10:31.08, freshman Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) ranked 19th overall (10:42.75), senior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was 23rd overall in 10:49.23, sophomore Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) crossed the finish line in 10:53.03 for a 24th place showing, junior Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) placed 26th overall (10:53.45) and freshman Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) finished 27th overall in 10:53.48.

Senior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) placed tenth overall in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:51.11.

Other Stonehill Highlights Include:

Sophomore Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) ranked 13th overall in the pole vault clearing 9-feet and 0.25-inches.

In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) posted a 13th place finish with a time of 1:09.59. Junior Sarah Burke (South Yarmouth, Mass/Dennis-Yarmouth) was 17th overall in 1:11.79.

Sophomore Amanda Egesi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) placed 20th overall in the 100 meter dash in 13.00 seconds while freshman Christina Russo (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop) came in 26th place with a time of 13.29 seconds.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, April 14 as it hosts the Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium with field events starting at 10:30 a.m.
