Curit, Wilson Earn NE-10 Weekly Honors For Second-Straight Week

The pair of freshman have collected 11 conference awards combined this season

EASTON, Mass. (February 28, 2012) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's indoor track and field team have earned weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier this week. Freshman Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) was named the Women's Field Rookie of the Week and classmate Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) has earned Women's Track Rookie of the Week honors for the second-straight week.

Wilson improved her NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800 meter run trials at the New England Championships in a school record time of 2:15.45 on Friday evening. In the finals on Saturday, Wilson finished sixth overall with a time of 2:16.16 to earn All-New England honors. Wilson was the only member of the women's indoor track and field team to garner All-New England status at the meet.

Wilson collects her fourth-career Track Rookie of the Week honors after earning recognition from the conference on December 10, 2011, January 30 and February 20.

Curit finished 11th overall in the long jump at the New England Championships with a leap of 16-feet and 10.50-inches and also ranked 12th overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.78 seconds.

Curit has now been honored by the conference with seven weekly awards this season. Curit has earned one Track Athlete of the Week award (2/13), three Track Rookie of the Week honors (12/6/11, 1/23 and 2/13) and two Field Rookie of the Week awards (1/23, 2/20).

Curit, who has provisionally qualified in the 400 meter dash, awaits word along with Wilson, senior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and Stonehill's distance medley relay team for the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato (Myers Fieldhouse; Mankato, Minn.), on Friday, March 9 at noon.
