Curit Named NE-10 Track And Field Rookie Of The Week

Biddeford, Maine native wins 400 meter run, places fourth in long jump at UNH tri-meet

EASTON, Mass. (January 23, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman jumper/sprinter Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine, Biddeford) has been named the Women's Rookie of the Week for both track and field by the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier today.

Curit earned her first career collegiate win in the 400 meters on Saturday at the University of New Hampshire tri-meet posting a career best time of 1:00.65. Curit also helped Stonehill to a second-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay as the lead leg of the event. In the field, Curit placed fourth overall in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet and 7.75-inches, an inch shy of her career personal best.

Curit collects her second NE-10 Track Rookie of the Week award earning similar honors on December 6, 2011 for her fourth place finish in the 400 meters at the Jay Carisella Invitational.

The freshman comes to Stonehill College after a standout four-year career at Biddeford High School where she holds the state record for the long jump in both indoor and outdoor track. A captain of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams in her junior and senior years, Curit is a four-year letterwinner in both sports as well as soccer.

Stonehill is back in action on Friday night for the New Balance Boston Collegiate Indoor Games, hosted by the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center, starting at 4:30 p.m.
