Wilson Named NE-10 Track Rookie Of The Week

West Suffield, Conn. native finishes first overall in the 1,000 meter run at the Reggie Poyau Invitational

EASTON, Mass. (December 13, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman middle distance/distance runner Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) has been named the Women's Track Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) for the first time in her career, it was announced earlier today.

Wilson earned first-place honors in the 1,000 meter run, edging out Brandeis' sophomore Victoria Sanford (Andover, N.Y./Andover) by 0.15 seconds (3:06.16 to 3:06.31) for her first-collegiate win on Saturday at the Reggie Poyau Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University, at the Gosman Athletic Center. Wilson also ran the lead leg of Stonehill's first place 4x800 meter relay team (9:56.72).

The freshman comes to Stonehill College after a standout four-year career at Suffield High School where she currently holds 10 school records including the high-water mark in the 1,000 meter run. Wilson set the school record in the 1,000 meter run with a third place finish at the Indoor Track and Field New England Championships on March 24, 2011 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center with a time of 2:57.89. Wilson was also selected to the NCCCS All-Conference team for three-straight years.

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, January 21 at the New Hampshire Tri-Meet, hosted by the University of New Hampshire, at the Paul Sweet Oval in Durham, N.H. at 11:00 a.m.
