Curit Named NE-10 Track Rookie Of The Week

Biddeford, Maine native finishes fourth in 400 meter dash at the Jay Carisella Invitational

EASTON, Mass. (December 6, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman jumper/sprinter Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) has been named the Women's Track Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) for the first time in her career, it was announced earlier today.

Curit finished fourth overall in the 400 meter dash at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, on Saturday with a time of 1:00.87, the fastest time among all collegiate entries in the race. The current school record in the 400 meter dash is 59.03 set by Jackie Burbank on February 14, 2004 at Boston University.

Curit also ran the second leg of Stonehill's third place 4x400 meter relay team (4:08.16).  

The freshman comes to Stonehill College after a standout four-year career at Biddeford High School where she holds the state record for the long jump in both indoor and outdoor track. A captain of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams in her junior and senior years, Curit is a four-year letterwinner in both sports and soccer as well.

Stonehill returns to action next Saturday when it participates in the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis University starting at 11 a.m.
