EASTON, Mass. (May 18, 2011) – Six members of the Stonehill College women’s track & field team, ranked second in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional index, have been recognized in the inaugural class of outdoor All-East Region honorees by the USTFCCCA.

Earning All-East Region distinction for their spring performances are junior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral), junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth), and sophomore Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), all dual honorees; junior Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central); and sophomores Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading) and Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic).

This season is the first for which the USTFCCCA has named All-Region selections in DII outdoor track & field. The awards recognize each region’s top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events.

Ferrarini earns All-Region honors in both the 3000m steeplechase and 1500m run. Ferrarini clocked the season’s fastest steeplechase time in the East Region with a personal-best 11:22.11 at last week’s New England Outdoor Championships, placing 13th overall as the top DII finisher in the event. She also ranks fifth regionally in the 1500m run with a time of 4:48.10 as the runner-up at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Championships, earning All-Conference recognition.

Ferrarini collects her third regional honor of the season, after she was an indoor All-East Region selection during the winter as a member of the Skyhawks’ All-New England distance medley relay squad which holds the school record of 12:17.17 in the event. She is also a member of the Skyhawks’ defending NE-10 champion outdoor 4x800m relay squad.

Mahoney is also a two-time honoree this spring, in the 5000m and 10,000m events, and earns her second 5000m recognition of the season after collecting indoor regional honors this winter. Mahoney holds the top 5000m time in the region with her program record of 17:29.40 at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational, over 27 seconds faster than the second-ranked East Region performance, and claimed an All-Conference finish in the event as the NE-10 Championships runner-up earlier this month.

Mahoney earned All-New England honors in the 10,000m run last week with an eighth-place finish at the New England Championships, logging a career-best 38:16.17 for the second-fastest time in the region this spring. She is a two-time indoor All-Conference performer with honors in the 3000m and 5000m events.

McBride, recognized in the 5000m and 10,000m events, is also a repeat honoree after earning indoor 5000m honors this winter. Her time of 18:06.73 in the 5000m event at the Larry Ellis Invitational ranks third regionally this spring, and she was an All-Conference performer as the 5000m runner-up at the NE-10 Indoor Championships. She has run the 5000m event at four New England Championships.

McBride earned her first career conference championship earlier this month when she won the outdoor 10,000m title, crossing the line in 39:35.72 to win by 30 seconds. Her time of 39:14.66 at April’s Tufts Snowflake Classic ranks third in the region this spring.

Carrier claims her first career All-Region nod with her selection in the 800m run. She notched her fifth-ranked time of 2:16.31 just a week ago at the New England Championships, placing 20th overall in the event with her fastest time of the season. Carrier is a three-time NE-10 champion, winning the 2010 outdoor titles in the 800m and as a member of the 4x400m relay, and the 2009 indoor championship in the 4x800m relay. She also holds three school records, as she owns the outdoor 800m mark at 2:14.35, and is a member of the indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay records.

Dyson is also a first-time honoree with her All-Region selection in the javelin. Her throw of 127 feet, eight inches at the NE-10 Championships, where she placed third overall, ranks fifth in the East Region this season. Dyson was the NE-10 javelin champion as a freshman last spring, and is an All-New England honoree in both the javelin and the high jump. She holds three Stonehill program records through just two seasons of competition, including the indoor and outdoor high jump marks at 5'3.75", and the javelin record at 131'4".

Veit, a dual honoree this winter in the distance medley relay and the mile, earns an outdoor selection in the steeplechase. Her time of 11:34.24 set at the George Davis Invitational in April is the second-fastest in the region this spring, behind only teammate Ferrarini. Veit captured the NE-10 steeplechase title earlier this month for her first career conference championship, covering the course in 11:37.45 to win by eight seconds. She is also part of the Stonehill program record in the distance medley relay, as a member of the All-New England quartet that clocked a 12:17.17 at this winter’s indoor championships.

Stonehill concluded the outdoor season last weekend at the New England Championships, hosted at Southern Connecticut State University.
