Stonehill Competes at George Davis Invitational

Dyson, Carrier claim top-five finishes; Mahoney runs best 3000m

LOWELL, Mass. (April 10, 2011) – The Stonehill College women’s track & field team collected 10 top-ten finishes in a strong outing Saturday at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Sophomore Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading) placed third in the javelin with Stonehill’s best mark of the season, throwing 125 feet, six inches to earn her second top-three finish in the event this spring. Dyson also placed ninth in the high jump with a height of five feet, one inch.

Junior Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) was also a top-five finisher on the track, placing fourth in the 800m run in 2:20.84. Freshman Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) followed in 19th in 2:27.95, and senior Lindsey Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) finished 26th in 2:29.87.

Leading five Stonehill runners in the 3000m event was junior Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth), who ran a career-best 10:24.33 to finish eighth overall. She sliced 21 seconds off her previous outdoor time for her second career mark in two meets, after setting a new personal best in the 10,000m event at Tufts last weekend. Senior Amanda Tripodi (Darien, Conn./Darien) came across in 11th in 10:38.27, and freshman Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and sophomore Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) also finished within the top 20.

Junior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and sophomore Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) turned in top-ten finishes in the 3000m steeplechase as the Skyhawks contested the event for the first time this season. Ferrarini covered the course in 11:30.91 to place sixth, and Veit was right behind her to take seventh in 11:34.24.

Stonehill is back in action next Saturday at the Minuteman Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Events begin at 11:30 a.m.
