Carrier Named NE-10 Track Athlete of the Week

Manchester, N.H. native honored for the first time after two event wins this weekend

EASTON, Mass. (March 30, 2011) – Stonehill College junior Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week by the conference office.

Carrier earns the honor for the first time in her career after winning two events Saturday at the Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational, leading Stonehill to six event victories in the outdoor season opener. She won the individual 800-meter run in 2:28.47 as the Skyhawks took the top four spots in the event. Carrier also ran a leg of the 4x400-meter relay with freshman Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), junior Susan O'Connell (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich), and senior Danielle Wheeler (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel), edging the host Bridgewater State squad by less than a second to take first place in 4:22.53.

Carrier and the Skyhawks are defending NE-10 outdoor champions in both events. She won the individual 800m conference title last spring on the Skyhawks' home track, and was a member of Stonehill's conference-champion 4x400m relay squad that took first at the same meet. Carrier's name is also in the Stonehill record book for both events, as she owns the 800m program record (2:14.35) and was part of the fastest-ever 4x400m squad (3:58.11).

She earned All-Conference recognition during the indoor season this winter, placing second with the 4x800-meter relay team at the NE-10 Indoor Championships.

Stonehill continues the outdoor campaign on Saturday at the Bryant University Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
