BOSTON, Mass. (February 12, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional index, wrapped up the Boston University Valentine Invitational at the BU Track & Tennis Center on Saturday with the women’s distance medley relay.

Sophomore Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic), juniors Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central), and senior Lindsey Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) teamed up to place 16th overall in the event. Their time of 12:21.30 automatically qualifies them for the New England Championships back at the Track & Tennis Center later this month.

They join two individual qualifiers from Friday’s events, as juniors Susan O’Connell (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) met automatic qualifying standards with their performances yesterday, both running their respective events for the first time this season. O’Connell placed 21st in the 500m dash in 1:19.11 to claim the Skyhawks’ highest finish on the track on Friday, and Mahoney logged a time of 18:10.43 in the 5000m run, finishing 43rd overall.

Friday’s events saw five Skyhawks set season-best marks across three events. Alves led four Stonehill entries in the mile run, placing 55th in 5:09.73, and junior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) took four seconds off her winning mile time at last week’s Tufts Stampede to place 59th in an even 5:12. Senior Amanda Tripodi (Darien, Conn./Darien) finished 70th in 5:14.61, as all three ran their fastest mile time of the season. Veit took 85th in the field of 147 with a time of 5:20.09.

Sophomore Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading) matched her season-best performance in the high jump as she cleared five feet, 2.25 inches in the high jump for the second week in a row to place 14th overall in the event.

Booth checked in with a 58th-place finish (of 139 runners) in the 800m run with a season-best time of 2:20.50.

The Skyhawks will be back in action on Thursday at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, to be hosted at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center beginning at 4:00 p.m.
