Chauvin Named Northeast-10 Field Rookie of the Week

Seekonk, Mass. native owns new Stonehill record in shot put

EASTON, Mass. (December 14, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) has today been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Field Rookie of the Week by the conference office.

Chauvin broke the Stonehill program record in the shot put at the Harvard Open on Saturday, registering a throw of 37 feet, 9.25 inches to place 13th of 50 competitors in the event. She outdistanced by 5.25 inches the previous mark of 37'4", set by teammate Erica Insel at the 2009 NE-10 Championships.

She earns her first career nomination after setting the record in her second collegiate meet. Previously, Chauvin placed 14th in the shot put at last weekend's Jay Carisella Track & Field Invitational at Northeastern University with a throw of 34 feet, 10.25 inches.

Chauvin is also a goalkeeper on the Stonehill women's soccer team, and saw action in two games during her rookie season this fall.

Stonehill will next compete at the University of New Hampshire Tri-Meet on January 22.
