Chauvin sets new school record in shot put

  

Krista Chauvin broke the school record in the shot put.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 12, 2010) – Freshman Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) set a new program record in the shot put to lead the Stonehill College women’s track and field team at the Harvard Open at Albert H. Gordon Track on Saturday.

Chauvin registered a throw of 37 feet, 9.25 inches, breaking teammate Erica Insel’s (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) mark of 37’4” set at the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Championships. She placed 13th overall in the event at her second collegiate competition.

Junior Maura Ferrarini (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) was the top Division II finisher in the 3000-meter run, placing sixth with a time of 10:45.92. The Skyhawks also got a strong distance performance from freshman Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland), who finished 20th in the mile with a mark of 5:33.88.

Sophomore Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading) placed 15th of 31 competitors in the high jump, clearing the bar at five feet, 0.5 inches.

Other Stonehill highlights include:

Freshman Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) placed 12th of 63 with a time of 2:24.35 in the 800-meter run.

Freshman Aimee Rideout (Woburn, Mass./Woburn) posted a time of 27.39 seconds to finish 30th of 112 competitors in the 200-meter dash.

Sophomore Katie Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) placed 12th in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.75 seconds.
