Stonehill Opens at Jay Carisella Invitational

Dyson sixth in high jump, Comei ninth in triple jump to lead Skyhawks

BOSTON, Mass. (December 6, 2010) – The Stonehill women's indoor track and field team opened its season at the Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center this weekend.

Sophomore Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) led the way for Stonehill with a sixth place finish in the high jump. She cleared 5-feet, 1.75-inches (1.57m) on her second jump, which was won by Tufts University junior Dayorsha Collins with a height of 5-5.75. Freshman Taylor Horne (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) placed 11th in the even in her collegiate debut with a height of 4-11.75.

Freshman Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) took ninth in the triple jump in her collegiate debut with a distance of 33-feet, 5.75-inches. Classmate Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) also posted a top ten finish in her first collegiate event by placing ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.76.

Freshman Melissa Ulcena (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) was tenth in the 1000-meter run with her time of 3:17.98, while classmate Molly Kalla (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) placed 14th in 3:24.99.

Other Stonehill highlights include:
Senior Amanda Tripodi (Darien, Conn./Darien) and sophomore Erin Carmone (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) ran back-to-back in the 5000-meter run with tenth (18:50.45) and 11th (18:51.32) place finishes overall. Sophomore Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) finished 14th in the event with her time of 19:02.01.
Sophomore Kathryn Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) placed tenth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.32-seconds.
Freshman Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) placed 14th for the shot put with a throw of 34-feet, 10.25-inches.
Freshman Aimee Rideout (Woburn, Mass./Woburn) placed 18th (out of 73 competitors) in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.38-seconds, to go with a 20th place finish (out of 46) in the 55-meter dash with her time of 7.78-seconds. Classmates Kelly Lucia (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and Ashley McLaughlin (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) were 34th (8.29) and 35th (8.30), respectively, in the 55-meter dash and 56th (29.66) and 61st (30.35) in the 200.
Senior Danielle Wheeler (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) placed 23rd in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.97.
