Stonehill Strong at George
Davis Invitational
4x400 relay team leads the
way with record-setting first place finish
LOWELL, Mass. (April 11,
2010) – The Stonehill College women’s outdoor
track and field team was strong again while competing at the George
Davis Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts
Lowell on Saturday.
Stonehill won the 4x400-meter relay
with a school-record time of 4:02.77. Running the event for the
Skyhawks were senior Kathryn O’Leary (Rensselaer,
N.Y./Columbia), juniors Danielle Wheeler (Carmel,
N.Y./Carmel) and Lindsey Booth (Franklin,
Mass./Franklin) and sophomore Christen Carrier
(Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central). The team broke the
previous record of 4:03.53 set at the 2002 New England
Championships.
O’Leary also placed fourth in
the 400-meter dash in 1:00.29-seconds, while Wheeler also finished
seventh in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.70. Carrier took fourth in
the 800-meter run in 2:20.51, while fellow sophomore Jill
Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) was 12th
in 2:23.96.
Freshman Olivia Dyson
(Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed third in the high
jump with a school-record matching height of 5’03.00”.
Brandeis senior Suzanne Bernier won with the same height, but
cleared on the first attempt, while Dyson cleared on the third.
Dyson matched the school-record set by Colleen Carmen at the 2008
Stonehill Skyhawks Invitational.

Dyson was also second in the
javelin with a distance of 112’10”. Her throw matched
the winning distance set by sophomore Bethany Dumas from Southern
Maine, but the tie was broken with their second throw.

Freshman Kristen Veit
(Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) placed fourth in the
5000-meter run in 19:19.88.
Freshman Kathryn
Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) finished fifth in the
100-meter hurdles in 16.30.
Sophomore Vlada Shelkova
Newington, Conn./Newington) was seventh in the long jump
with a leap of 16’08”. She was also 21st in
the shot put with a throw of 29’03.75”.
Sophomore Kristen Mahoney
(Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) placed eighth in the 3000-meter
run in 10:45.79. Freshman Caroline McBride (North Reading,
Mass./North Reading) was ninth in 10:51.42. Junior
Amanda Tripodi (Darien, Conn./Darien) finished
13th in 11:28.41, while freshman Jessica
Kilpatrick (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) was
17th in 11:36.89 and senior Bridget DeVincent
(Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) was 21st in
11:45.68.
Freshman Erin Carmone
(Riverside, R.I./East Providence) placed eighth (out of 50
runners) in the 1500-meter run in 4:57.75. Classmate Lynley
Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) was tenth in
5:01.40, while freshman Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury,
Mass./Hudson Catholic) was 20th in 5:10.01,
freshman Alexis Monahan (Swoyersville, Pa. /Holy
Redeemer) was 27th in 5:13.45, freshman
Stephanie Wilson (Wayzata, Minn./Hopkins) was
28th in 5:14.62.
Senior Meghan Rocha
(Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin) placed eighth in the discus
with a throw of 123’01”.
Sophomore Erica Insel
(Clinton, N.J./Vorhees) placed ninth in the javelin with a
distance of 107’09”. She also placed 14th in
the shot put with a throw of 32’.00”.
Freshman Danielle
Scaglione (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth) placed
11th in the javelin with a throw of 101’07”.
Sophomore Kamilia Drogosz (Unionville,
Conn./Farmington) was 15th at
92’04”.
Junior Angela Miller
(Brockton, Mass./Brockton) placed 12th in
100-meter dash in 13.72-seconds.
Stonehill is back in action next
weekend with the team splitting up between the Larry Ellis
Invitational, hosted by Princeton University, on Friday and
Saturday as well as the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday.
