BOSTON, Mass. (February 27, 2010) - The Stonehill College women's indoor track and field team, ranked third in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, had two student-athletes earn All-New England honors while competing at the New England Championships, hosted by Boston University, on Friday and Saturday.

Stonehill placed 30th out of 65 programs from NCAA Divisions I, II and III overall and fifth among Division II programs. The University of Connecticut won the overall title, while Northeast-10 Conference champions University of Massachusetts Lowell led the Division II contingent and placed ninth overall.

Sophomore Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and freshman Jessica Jarrard (Shrewsbury, Mass./Hudson Catholic) both led the way for Stonehill and earned All-New England honors in their respective events.

Alves placed eighth in the 1000-meter run, breaking the school-record in the event twice over the two days of competition. She advanced to Saturday's final with a time of 2:56.94 to qualify seventh (out of 30 competitors) in Friday's preliminary round, breaking the previous record of 2:57.40 set by Cristina Seremetis at the 2003 Northeast-10 Championships. Alves bettered that record in today's final with a time of 2:56.24.


Jessica Jarrard also earned All-New England honors with her eighth-place finish in the 5000-meter.

Jarrard placed eighth in the 5000-meter run (out of 28 competitors) with a time of 18:08.21. Freshman Caroline McBride (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) finished 17th in 18:33.69, while sophomore Kristen Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) was next in 18th with a time of 18:35.20.

Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay team finished tenth out of 23 teams with a time of 9:30.11. Running for the Skyhawks were junior Lindsey Booth (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and freshmen Alexis Monahan (Swoyersville, Pa./Holy Redeemer), Kristen Veit (Easthampton, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) and Lynley Joynt (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland).

Other results for Stonehill included:

Freshman Kathryn Bernazzani (Norwood, Mass./Norwood) reached the semifinal round in the 55-meter high hurdles, advancing by breaking her own school-record in Friday's preliminary round with a time of 8.56-seconds to place 15th. She finished 16th in Saturday's semifinal in 8.74. Bernazzani broke her previous school record of 8.71 set at the Tufts Stampede on February 6.

Sophomore Christen Carrier (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) and senior Kathryn O'Leary (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia) finished back-to-back in the 500-meter run. Carrier was 12th out of 30 competitors in 1:17.83, while O'Leary was 13th in 1:18.15.

Junior Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area), the Northeast-10 Champion in the 800-meter run, placed 17th out of 31 runners in Friday's prelims with a time of 2:19.14.

Joynt finished 19th out of 28 runners in the 3000-meter run in 10:35.32.

Freshman Olivia Dyson (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) placed 24th in the preliminary round of the 55-meter dash, missing the cut by just .11-seconds.

Veit placed 25th in the mile run with a time of 5:18.73.

Next up for those who have qualified will be the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday and Saturday, March 12 & 13.
